The Finance Officer supports the effective day to day operation of the Finance function by ensuring financial transactions are processed accurately, consistently, and on time. The role plays a vital part in maintaining reliable financial records, supporting cash flow management, and providing high quality finance support to internal and external stakeholders. Working closely with colleagues across the business, the Finance Officer helps ensure strong financial controls, timely reporting, and a high standard of accuracy across all finance processes.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions accurately and within agreed deadlines.
  • Raise and issue customer invoices, record receipts, and support the management of debtor balances.
  • Resolve supplier and customer invoice queries, escalating issues where appropriate.
  • Reconcile supplier statements and support timely payment processing.
  • Process and validate company credit card transactions, ensuring receipts and evidence are complete.
  • Record stock transactions accurately and support periodic stock take activities.
  • Monitor bank transactions and support regular bank reconciliations.
  • Maintain accurate financial records, ledgers, and journals within the accounting system.
  • Support internal and external audit activity by providing accurate documentation and information.
  • Work closely with budget holders and Finance colleagues to support effective financial controls.
  • Ensure finance systems and records are kept up to date and maintained to a high standard.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, or ways of working within the Finance function.

Experience

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy in numerical work.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidence using finance systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to work reliably with financial data and confidential information.

Desirable

  • Experience in a finance, accounting, or business support role.
  • AAT Level 3 qualification (or willingness to study towards this).
  • Experience of accounting or ERP systems.
  • Understanding of basic accounting principles, including AP, AR, and reconciliations.
  • Contract Initially 12 Month FTC
  • Salary from £26,000
