Service Employer: Business in Focus
Location: Home-based (with regional travel)
We are now seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Supply Chain Engagement Advisor to support SMEs to strengthen their supply chains, improve tender readiness and access new procurement opportunities.
About the Role
As a Supply Chain Engagement Advisor, you will act as the specialist lead for supply chain development, procurement practice and tender-readiness across the BDG service. You will work directly with businesses, develop specialist resources, support colleagues, and contribute to the Relationship Managed Programme.
You will help SMEs understand supply chain processes, navigate legislation, improve buyer–supplier relationships, and increase the retention of public and private sector expenditure within the Welsh economy.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist advice through webinars, workshops, digital sessions and occasional 1:1 meetings.
- Develop digital content and resources (factsheets, tutorials, signposting materials) for supply chain, procurement and tendering topics.
- Support BDG colleagues and thematic initiatives by sharing specialist knowledge and undertaking CPD contributions.
- Work with Relationship Managers to diagnose supply chain barriers and support client actions within Roadmaps for Growth (RFG) and Strategic Operating Growth Plans (SOGPs).
- Ensure all advisory support is delivered and documented compliantly on prescribed digital systems.
- Engage with ecosystem partners to strengthen referral networks, procurement pathways and opportunities.
- Attend networking and engagement events to promote the service and support client development.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of supply chain legislation, procurement changes and sector trends.
- Identify clients for case studies, mentoring or ambassador opportunities.
- Support continuous improvement and service development across BDG.
- Promote equality, diversity and inclusive service delivery.
- Carry out any additional duties required by senior management.
About You
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong knowledge of supply chain, procurement and tendering processes and best practice.
- Experience providing advice to SMEs via telephone or face‑to‑face.
- Proven experience supporting a diverse portfolio of businesses with supply chain or procurement issues.
- Experience working with medium‑sized SMEs.
- Understanding of industrial sectors and the Welsh economic landscape.
- Knowledge of business support services across public and private sectors.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to adapt to varied audiences.
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
- Customer‑focused approach with strong problem‑solving and evidence‑based judgement.
- High integrity and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office/365.
- Valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
Desirable
- Degree in supply chain, procurement, or related field.
- Direct experience in specific industrial sectors.
- Welsh language skills (highly desirable).
