Overview

The Crewing Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring that the company’s vessels are adequately manned. The Crewing Manager oversees all crew and seafarer-related matters and ensures that the crewing department is carrying out their duties efficiently and responsibly. The Crewing Manager also oversees that all transport, accommodation, and crew recruitment of the company are met in line with budgetary requirements.

Responsibilities

The Crewing Manager is primarily responsible for:

  • Reporting to the Operations Manager, overseeing the day-to-day running of the Crewing department and management of the Crewing Supervisors and Maritime Recruiter.
  • Leading the recruitment and selection process for maritime crew and coordinating needs with the Maritime Recruiter.
  • Verifying work processes including documentation to ensure all company vessels are sufficiently crewed to enabled them to sail within specified country regulations.
  • Ensuring the vessel’s operational schedules are in compliance with international labour laws, rest hour regulations and that crew rotas are accurate, up-to-date, and in-line with company specifications.
  • Coordinating crew rotations and ensuring that crew members are available for assignments based on operational needs and availability.
  • Act as a key point of contact between the crew, operations and other departments to ensure seamless operational coordination.
  • Reviewing and providing support to the Crewing Supervisors in relation to crew travel arrangements including, but not limited to flights, accommodations, transportation & vehicle hire, and visas & travel documents
  • Ensuring that all crew certifications and qualifications are kept up-to-date, and records are accurately maintained on Axisware.
  • Overseeing the professional development and day-to-day activities of Crewing Supervisors to enhance performance, safety, and career growth.
  • Managing the welfare and well-being of crew members, including addressing any concerns or issues that arise during assignments.
  • Fostering a positive work environment in line with the Company’s ethos to ensure that crew and team morale and engagement are maintained at high levels.
  • Ensuring the PO register is accurately updated, maintained and liaising with Finance for reconciliations.
  • Participating in crew pay negotiations and welfare discussions to ensure life onboard vessels is up to required standards.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Crew Management or related area desirable but not essential

Competencies

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated experience with developing strong stakeholder relationships (both internally and externally).
  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse workforce.
  • IT proficient with experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Detail-oriented

Experience

  • 5+ years’ experience in a Fleet Management/Crewing Service/Maritime-related role managing multiple vessels.
  • 5 years’ experience with maritime crew management with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of international maritime laws and regulations including, STCW, MLC, ISM Code, and industry best practices.
