Job description

Lead, manage and develop Packhouse Quality team to ensure all products released for distribution meets customer specification and legal requirements. Support all departments and customers in developing and complying with processes to deliver a safe, legal and quality product.

Responsibilities

Team Management and Expertise:

  • To effectively manage the quality control teams day to day in a proactive manner.
  • Develop a multiskilled quality team.
  • Organise and maintain the work rota for the quality team.
  • Ensure that continuous improvement/best practice as well as effective team working is a priority for all.
  • Oversee and/or organise QC teams meetings to enable thorough communication about daily production issues, product launches and other general updates.
  • Control all customer finished goods and raw material specifications.
  • Communicate any changes in product specification and new product information to all the relevant departments and personnel.
  • Deputize for QA Manager for anything Quality related in their absence.
  • Partner with production to drive accountability for quality and increase their knowledge of quality defects/issues
  • Equipment control and calibration, ensuring that calibration is carried out as required and records are up to date and available for auditing purposes.
  • Follow and encourage following all company policies, procedures and guidelines, leading by example.
  • Ensure that all Accidents and Near Misses are recorded and communicated to Health and Safety representative, taking an active part in the investigation as required.

Product Quality & Safety:

  • Ensure that the product produced meets food safety, legal, quality and customer requirements.
  • Ensure that the site meets Quality KPI’s targets.
  • Ensure customer requirements are managed and responded to promptly.
  • Ensure that a thorough investigation takes place of any serious customer complaints or depot rejections.
  • Ensure that the non-conformance procedure is followed, and that corrective actions/ root cause analysis is carried out to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Have input into creating/reviewing factory based technical procedures.
  • Ensure that site is always audit ready.
  • Take an active part in the internal audit programme. In addition, ensure that members of the QC team are released to also participate in internal audits when required.
  • Participate in pre-production trials, trialling of new machinery for food processing and improving production processes.
  • Support during site audits with site standards and documentation.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of company initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Excellent standard of English & Math’s
  • HACCP, Auditing, and a Food Safety qualification advantageous.
  • Experience of managing a team and supporting and developing direct reports
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the fresh produce sector
  • At least 2 years previous experience of a role in a Quality management role (e.g. at QA/QC Supervisor level or above)

Shift- 4 on 4 off. 6am-6pm
