What is the opportunity?:

Engineering Services is an R&D team of Omnissa that is responsible for design, implementation, operations, and incident response for a range of services and infrastructure. The focus of this position is on managing the usage of Public Cloud Infrastructure access, subscription management, cost management, and spending effectiveness across multiple Cloud vendors including Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform. Customers are internal teams including R&D, IT, Customer-facing SMEs, and Support.

This role will include formulating and implementing usage policies, request, approval and provisioning processes, developing and maintaining tools that provide well-governed self-service paths for customers, performing required direct administrative action, and participating in required fiscal and security compliance audits. This role will work closely with contacts for customers, security and vulnerability management, finance, procurement, and accounting, as well as our Cloud vendors and vendor partners.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a FinOps program within Engineering Services in collaboration with Finance, Procurement, and internal customer leaders. Establish and measure goals for this program to promote the effectiveness and efficiency of Cloud spending.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders on enterprise agreements, commitment spending, pre-pay reservations, and savings plans. Review opportunities for teams to adjust usage and pursue savings opportunities on a quarterly basis. Develop monitoring and alerting to identify and address needed adjustments between reviews.
  • Minimize chances for unmonitored spending to exceed budgets or linger beyond the original project goals and need.
  • Review request and provision cloud accounts and subscriptions requests for supported public cloud vendors including (AWS, Azure, and GCP). Collaborate on processes for handling simple requests or to develop additional automation that streamlines the provisioning process while ensure necessary checks on spending are made as needed. Help ensure new spending aligns with approved budgets.
  • Provide technical assistance to customers for access and subscription management.
  • Evangelize and educate customers on self-service tools and training to foster awareness of their spending and skill in managing their spending effectively. Share updates and changes from Cloud providers, stay up to date with and share best practices. Collaborate with Public Cloud provider account teams on spending management tools and suggestions.
  • Assist with reviewing invoices for correctness and provide confirmation for payment approval requests. Submit requests for funding POs for invoicing Public Cloud spending against. Update providers with new POs and invoicing instructions, as necessary.
  • Participate with design, implementation, and maintenance of organization policies for security and compliance of public cloud usage and participate in audits, as necessary.
  • Facilitate team awareness and monitoring of provider marketplace subscriptions renewals and updates for timely renews or cancelation as dictated by active projects. Ensure subscriptions are canceled for discontinued projects.

  • FinOps position and common practices
  • AWS services, control tower, identity center, console, CLI, and APIs as well as cost tools. AWS marketplace.
  • Azure admin portal, subscription and IAM management, and Azure services and marketplace.
  • Google Cloud Platform administration, billing administration, projects, and IAM.
  • Python, Ruby, YAML, and Terraform

Position Description Engineering Services is an R&D team at Omnissa responsible for design, implementation, operations, and incident response for a range of services and infrastructure. Services include product development and delivery focused tools such as GitHub, Artifactory, and SonarQube as well as division-wide business tools including Atlassian Confluence, Jira, and Jira Service Management. Infrastructure includes both SDDCs on EUC data center hosted hardware and cloud provider hosted environments such as AWS that are designed and operated to support Engineering Services self-hosted tools. There is opportunity to work across the team’s portfolio, however, we’re focusing on growing our team focused on R&D build tools and supporting infrastructure. You will work with multiple engineering teams to ensure products can be built and tested quickly, reliably, and securely. Technology and projects you’ll work on will include: ● Self-hosted Artifactory and X-ray in AWS, proxy and edge node deployment hosted corporate data centers, as well as cost analysis, maintenance, and troubleshooting. ● Self-hosted GitHub action runners in AWS and in corporate data centers. ● R&D team new and existing projects on GitHub, Artifactory, and SonarQube support. ● Secure release pipeline solution integration including GitHub Advanced Security, X-ray, and FOSSA (open-source risk management). ● Micro site and tool design, build, deploy, and operate including customer facing product information micro sites. Position Responsibilities: ● Manage GitHub Enterprise and Advanced Security, JFrog Artifactory, SonarQube, FOSSA (open-source risk management). Improve observability, availability, and performance. Assist developers in troubleshooting issues. ● Build and maintain infrastructure for GitHub Action Runners and Action Runner Controllers aligned with software provenance goals including keeping ephemeral hosts and containers up-to-date and secure. ● Maintain Nginx proxies and implement networking configurations and firewalls to maintain appropriate network access control. ● Manage self-hosted build infrastructure (Windows, Linux, macOS) in data centers as well in AWS with robust automation and an infrastructure-as-code philosophy. ● Design, implement, and enforce standards, conventions, processes and procedures for development as well as build and release-related activities. ● Troubleshoot issues with source control, actions, scanning, dependency management, artifact storage, source and binary mirrors and help others learn to do so. ● Maintain high availability and performance goals for the build system. Keep third-party software used in the build systems concurrent with the latest patches and updates available. Remediate vulnerabilities with SLA timelines based on severity. ● Identify and communicate best practices and consult with R&D teams. ● Complete projects with Ansible, Terraform, Packer, Docker, AWS API, Python, Shell and other tools ● Analyze costs vs. value and identify opportunities to manage spending effectively. Position Requirements: ● Working knowledge of build pipeline steps compilation, package management, test automation, artifact handling, and metrics that can be applied to various languages including Java, C, C++, Kotlin, Swift, Node, Ruby, and Python. ● Understanding of security and compliance concerns for the software build infrastructure and tools including the provenance integrity of both the software produced and the tools that build it. ● Ability to read and write solutions implemented in Python, GitHub Action YAML metadata, and Terraform with an understanding of best practices including good style. ● Ability to work independently with minimal guidance as well as know when to collaborate with others. ● Demonstrate a strong work ethic, good time management, and the ability to work with diverse, globally distributed teams.
