The Membership Manager sits within the Membership & Marketing directorate, reporting to the Head of Membership. The directorate brings together three interrelated functions; Membership, Partnerships and Marketing, under the leadership of the Director of Membership & Marketing and is responsible for driving sustainable growth through member value, business development and targeted marketing. This role is central to WIG’s membership proposition. The Membership Manager will build, manage and deepen relationships with portfolio of WIG’s 250+ member organisations spanning government, industry and the not-for-profit sector, while also playing a key role in securing new members and expanding WIG’s cross-sector community. With a passion for public policy and cross-sector collaboration, you will ensure high levels of engagement, retention and satisfaction, acting as a trusted point of contact and advocate for member needs. The right candidate will be energised by working at the intersection of policy, leadership and cross-sector collaboration. The Membership Manager is recognised across WIG as a confident, credible and trusted point of contact for members, contributing actively to the directorate’s culture of high performance and commercial accountability.
1. Relationship management and member engagement
- Serve as the primary point of contact for an assigned portfolio of member organisations, ensuring consistent, proactive and personalised engagement that deepens each member’s connection to WIG.
- Develop in-depth knowledge of each member organisation’s goals, challenges and areas of interest to tailor WIG’s offerings to meet their specific needs, working closely with the Head of Membership and colleagues across the directorate.
- Conduct regular meetings with members (virtual and in person), offering personalised support, identifying opportunities for deeper involvement in WIG’s programmes and fostering long-term relationships.
- Track member participation, feedback and overall satisfaction using WIG’s CRM system to develop insights that support targeted retention and engagement strategies.
- CRM data is maintained to a high standard, with engagement metrics and member insight informing both your own and the team’s approach to renewal cycles and growth opportunities.
2. Business development and new member acquisition
- Actively participate in the recruitment of new members, with direct responsibility for bringing in an annual allocation of new member organisations per year.
- Drive WIG’s growth by leading on selling across WIG’s full offer, including leadership interventions, strategic dialogue, the ‘Workings Of’ programme and research and insight products.
- Support the Head of Membership in developing compelling membership propositions and targeted acquisition campaigns, contributing to the directorate’s overall growth targets.
3. Strategic account management and cross-directorate collaboration
- Collaborate with the Head of Membership to develop tailored engagement plans and strategies for each assigned member, ensuring alignment with WIG’s strategic priorities. Work closely with colleagues across the Membership & Marketing directorate and the Strategy & Programmes directorate to ensure the membership offer is well-connected to WIG’s programme activity, research output and partnership opportunities.
- Share member intelligence and insights with the Head of Partnerships, Head of Marketing and the wider team to support cross-selling, upselling and joined-up proposition development.
4. Research, insight and market awareness
- Undertake research to maintain an understanding of the macroeconomic environment, policy trends and sector-specific challenges to support rich conversations with members and potential members.
- Contribute to the directorate’s understanding of market trends, competitor activity and member needs, feeding insights into the Head of Membership’s strategic planning.
5. Events and external engagement
- Regular attendance at WIG events in central London (early morning and/or lunchtime briefings) to meet with members and stay informed of critical issues impacting the UK.
- Attend all of WIG’s flagship events (approximately three per year) and external conferences to network with members and prospects, with occasional travel outside of London.
A level or above equivalent.
