Design the Future of Advanced Engineering.

At Polar, we're developing innovative engineering solutions for some of the world's most demanding industries, including Aerospace, Defence, Motorsport and Clean Energy.

We're looking for a Lead Design Engineer to play a key role in the development of next-generation metallic and composite products, taking concepts from initial design through to successful production. If you're passionate about solving complex engineering challenges, leading technical projects and mentoring other engineers, this is an opportunity to make a genuine impact.

About the Role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you'll lead the design and development of new products, technologies and engineering solutions across a diverse product portfolio.

Working closely with NPI, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Commercial and Operations teams, you'll ensure innovative designs are technically robust, manufacturable and ready for industrialisation. As a senior technical contributor, you'll also provide technical leadership across multiple projects while supporting the development of engineering capability within the business.

What You'll Be Doing

As our Lead Design Engineer, you'll:

  • Lead the design and development of innovative products from concept through to production.
  • Translate customer, technical and commercial requirements into practical engineering solutions.
  • Deliver designs that are manufacturable, scalable and suitable for automated production.
  • Lead technical feasibility studies, design reviews and engineering investigations.
  • Use CAD, CAE and FEA tools to validate and optimise designs.
  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI), APQP activities and successful product industrialisation.
  • Work collaboratively with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality and Operations to ensure production-ready designs.
  • Provide technical leadership during customer meetings, bids and proposal activities.
  • Contribute to technology development, research and intellectual property generation.
  • Mentor Design Engineers and promote engineering best practice across the team.

What We're Looking For

You'll ideally have:

  • A degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience in a Design Engineering role within a manufacturing environment.
  • A proven track record of leading engineering projects and new product developments.
  • Strong CAD experience, ideally using Siemens NX. Experience using Teamcenter PLM or similar engineering data management systems.
  • A sound understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), APQP and DFMEA.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and technical leadership skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Experience within Aerospace, Defence, Motorsport, Automotive or another advanced manufacturing environment would be highly advantageous. Experience with FEA, composite or metallic product design, and advanced manufacturing technologies would also be beneficial.

Why Join Polar?

At Polar, you'll become part of a business that's investing in innovation, technology and engineering excellence.

We offer the opportunity to:

  • Design cutting-edge products for world-leading customers.
  • Lead technically challenging development programmes from concept to production.
  • Work with advanced engineering tools, technologies and manufacturing processes.
  • Influence the future direction of our products and engineering capability.
  • Mentor and develop other engineers while advancing your own career.
  • Progress towards Senior Design Engineer, Principal Engineer or Engineering Manager roles.
