Sales & Estimating Engineer

Role Summary

This role sits at the heart of customer engagement and business development – evaluating enquiries, preparing costings, and producing accurate, competitive quotations across a wide variety of composite and metallic assemblies. The role will act as a key link between customers and our internal teams, ensuring requirements are understood, solutions are proposed, and new business is launched into production in a structured and organised way. It’s a fantastic opportunity for a technically minded commercial professional to work across high-performance industries, shaping how we win and deliver new business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with customers to understand requirements and develop tailored, value-driven solutions.
  • Prepare accurate costings and competitive quotations for complex components and assemblies.
  • Act as the internal point of contact for customer enquiries across multiple sectors and product types.
  • Provide reliable costing and estimating data to support commercial decision-making and bid success.
  • Support cross-functional teams (Engineering, Production, Supply Chain, Quality) to deliver project requirements.
  • Maintain accurate project cost tracking, comparing quoted vs actual during project realisation.
  • Assist in qualifying incoming leads to ensure alignment with company strategy.
  • Support tenders, proposals, audits, and customer reviews.
  • Work closely with Supply Chain to ensure accurate cost inputs and value for money.
  • Contribute to future budget setting, sales forecasting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Degree in Engineering or related field (preferred, but not essential with strong relevant experience).

Experience

  • Experience in a customer-facing role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong financial awareness with the ability to generate costings and analyse gross/net margins.
  • Good understanding of composite and metallic manufacturing processes.
  • Industry experience in Aerospace, Defence, Energy, Automotive, or Motorsport (desirable).

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills – able to influence colleagues, customers, and suppliers.
  • Proactive, organised, and comfortable working under pressure to strict deadlines.
  • Positive “can-do” attitude, with resilience and initiative.
  • IT literate, with strong MS Office and presentation skills (experience with SAP Business One desirable).
  • Flexible and willing to travel occasionally for customer visits and industry events.
