Role Summary
The Business Development Manager will be responsible for creating and implementing strategies to secure new business opportunities aligned with the company’s core competencies. The role demands a proven track record in revenue growth within advanced engineering markets, supported by strong technical and commercial expertise. The ideal candidate is driven, dynamic, and entrepreneurial, with the ability to translate technical solutions into clear commercial value. They will leverage their existing industry network, develop long-term customer partnerships, and play a key role in achieving the company’s growth targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute short- and long-term business development strategies aligned with company objectives.
- Identify and secure new opportunities by matching customer requirements with company capabilities.
- Deliver financial targets for sales, growth, and profitability.
- Manage and grow key customer relationships, from early engagement through to contract closure
- Prepare and present costings, proposals, quotations, and business models to create and secure new opportunities.
- Translate technical solutions into commercially viable propositions.
- Monitor industry trends, customer drivers, and competitor activities to support market positioning.
- Represent the company at industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events.
- Contribute to strategic business planning and provide accurate revenue forecasts to support budgeting.
- Maintain CRM records, ensuring accurate tracking of prospects, opportunities, and pipeline weighting.
- Support operations on contract management, including NDAs, terms & conditions, and supplier agreements.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Commercial teams to bring new products to market.
- Identify internal capability gaps (personnel, technical, or procedural) and recommend improvement actions.
Person Specification Qualifications
- Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Materials Science, or related technical discipline.
Experience
- Demonstrable experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment, with a strong record of business development and revenue growth.
- Proven sales experience in composites and metallic solutions for high-performance engineering markets (Automotive, Motorsport, Aerospace, Defence, Industrial).
- Established industry reputation and active contact book.
Skills/Attributes
- Financially astute; able to generate costings, manage P&L, and interrogate margins.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, understand manufacturing principles, and communicate technical solutions effectively.
- Exceptional communicator, collaborative, organised, and resilient.
- Strong negotiation skills with experience in bids/tenders.
- Entrepreneurial, proactive, and results-driven
- Proficient in MS Office, MS Project, and presentation tools.
- Flexible attitude, willingness to travel.
Full UK driving licence as travel to customers will be required
