Job Title: CNC Turner

Department: Machine Shop

Reporting To: Team Leader

Shift: Double day shift – 06:00 – 14:30 /14:00 – 22:30 of Late Shift 14:00 – 22:30

Role Summary

This role is responsible for the setup, operation, and programming of CNC turning machines, with a particular focus on Mazak equipment, to manufacture precision components from composite materials. Operating within a fast-paced production environment, the position supports the delivery of high-quality parts for the motorsport and aerospace sectors. The CNC Turner ensures that all machining activities meet required specifications, quality standards, and production timelines. The role involves working from technical drawings, selecting appropriate tooling and machining strategies, and maintaining consistent output while adhering to health, safety, and quality procedures. A key aspect of the role is maintaining accuracy and efficiency in machining complex composite components, while contributing to continuous improvement within the manufacturing process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set, operate, and program CNC turning machines (Mazak preferred)
  • Machine mainly composite materials to tight tolerances
  • Interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
  • Carry out tool changes, offsets, and basic machine maintenance
  • Inspect finished components using measuring equipment (micrometres, verniers, etc.)
  • Ensure all work meets quality and safety standards
  • Maintain a clean and organised workspace
  • Work effectively within a double day shift rotation or a permanent late shift position.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering / Machining or relevant experience

Experience

  • Proven experience as a CNC Turner ideally in aerospace or high spec industries
  • Experience working with composite materials (preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of Machine controls (e.g. Mazatrol)
  • Experience with quality inspection tools and techniques

Skills/Attributes

  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles
  • Understanding of ISO9001 compliance
  • Good understanding of health & safety in a machining environment
  • Ability to work shifts and as part of a team
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
