Experience and Qualifications:

  • Experience of income management, debt recovery, rent arrears management, or credit control within a social housing environment.
  • Knowledge of Housing Benefit regulations, welfare benefits and the processes involved in supported housing income collection.
  • Experience of working with Exempt and Managed Housing Benefit claims and liaising with local authority benefit teams.
  • Understanding of rent account management and income collection processes, including arrears prevention and recovery.
  • Experience of handling customer enquiries professionally, sensitively and solution-focused, particularly when discussing rent payments, arrears and benefits.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with tenants, deputies, appointees, care providers, local authorities and other key stakeholders to support income collection and tenancy sustainment.
  • Strong communication skills with the confidence to engage effectively with a wide range of people by phone, email and in person.
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records, update rent accounts and complete benefit-related documentation correctly.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads, work to deadlines and manage competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify income-related issues, take appropriate action and escalate where necessary.
  • Excellent customer service skills, demonstrating empathy, professionalism and accountability when supporting tenants and their representatives.
  • Competent IT skills with experience of using housing management systems, accounting systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while adapting positively to change and new ways of working.
  • An understanding of the social housing sector and the challenges faced by people with a learning disability.
  • A commitment to supporting tenants to sustain their tenancies, maximise their income and achieve positive outcomes.
  • A proactive approach to reducing arrears, improving collection performance and identifying opportunities to strengthen income management processes.
