HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Current Opportunity: Health and Safety Advisor

Location: Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).

Role Responsibilities:

  • Support the Sublot H&S Manager and provide day‑to‑day health and safety guidance across the site.
  • Advise on compliance with the BBV H&S management system and relevant UK legislation (e.g., CDM, Work at Height).
  • Carry out regular site inspections, review RAMS, and support investigations by updating the HS2 reporting database.
  • Deliver and produce safety communications, briefings, presentations, toolbox talks, and lessons learned.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and suppliers—including Traffic Management, Community Engagement, Facilities, and Procurement—to resolve issues and evaluate supplier H&S standards.

Essential Experience:

  • Previous experience in Construction Health and Safety, ideally including major construction projects with similar themes to HS2.
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate (or equivalent)
  • NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) 
  • Membership of IOSH – Tech IOSH
  • Experience of working on railway infrastructure (due to the Sublot undertaking works on Network Rail infrastructure alongside HS2)
