HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Current Opportunity: Summer Placement - Materials

Locations Available: Coleshill/Coventry

Role Responsibilities:

• Undertaking testing on materials including aggregates, concrete and asphalt in accordance with required standards.
• Complying with the high standards of works required by the Quality Management Systems within important deadlines.
• Maintaining equipment to an excellent standard as required by the Laboratory Manager.
• Proactively communicate with senior staff to ensure effective communication and flow of information.
  

Essential Experience:

• Having a friendly, flexible approach to your working day and a willingness to learn will be essential for this role.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Enthusiastic and motivated individuals currently studying a Geotechnical Geology or Materials Science degree in their 1st or 2nd Year of their degree programme and available for 8 weeks from 20 July 2026. Prioritisation will be given to candidates studying at a Midlands-based University or who are permanent residents within the area.
