HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Current Opportunity: Shift Engineer

Location: Based in Birmingham - the Central Region runs from the east of Birmingham into the city centre, comprising Sublot Delta, 1B, 4 and 5S. More than 50% of the structures within IPT Area North are located in the Central Region. This region, which covers a complex urban environment, also includes the 3.5 mile twin bore Bromford Tunnel. It also includes Interchange Station, as well as crossing three major highways (A45, M6 and M42).

Role Responsibilities: 

  • Prepare / review Method Statements, Risk Assessments, Inspection and Test Plans.
  • Overseeing the Spray Concrete Lining (SCL) and Reinforced Concrete (RC) and Crosspassages.
  • Managing the Crosspasssage excavation. Manage team of SCL Engineers and Site engineers.
  • Supervise works to ensure it is carried out safely.
  • Manage the monitoring of shotcrete lining thickness through inspection of post shift as-builts / visiting the works regularly throughout the shift.
  • Maintain high personal safety and environmental standards in accordance with company policies and report any standards on the site which are considered by you as inadequate.

Essential Experience:

  • Be degree qualified or have relevant professional experience in either Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (or, similar) and have, or be studying towards a professional qualification such as MICE/FGS Hold a valid CSCS card.
  • Have experience working on Cross passages and SCL (Spray Concrete Lining)
