Balfour Beatty VINCI is working with a range of organisations to design and build 90km West Midlands stretch of HS2 - Britain’s new high speed railway. Our work is essential to enable HS2 trains to travel between London and Birmingham as well as continue their journey up to Manchester. It’s an incredibly exciting time to join us - we’re at peak construction with work really ramping up on a broad range of assets including bridges, tunnels and viaducts. Plus you’d join 9,000 people across 72 nationalities working on this exciting section of HS2 across the region.

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a CCTV Operative within the Security. This role will be based on site in locations around Kingsbury and Lichfield The northernmost site of the West Midlands stretch of HS2 runs from Water Orton to Lichfield. The sites are mainly rural and will link HS2 to the West Coast Mainline track..

Role Responsibilities; 

  • To be an ambassador when promoting the principles of the BBV way, to be accountable for your actions in your daily routine, to be professional, confident, have a good manner and attitude when dealing with stressful situations, be diligent and communicative in report writing and most of all enthusiastic about your personal development.
  • To fully understand the operational requirements of the Video Surveillance Systems(VSS) capabilities what it does and what is expected of it from the wider business.
  • To exhaust all avenues in the pursuance of incident information collation and evidence presentation.
  • To undertake the day to day operating of the Video Surveillance Systems(VSS) equipment so that the CCTV Control room complies with the CCTV code of practice and remain operational at all times.
  • To undertake a, rotating 24-hour shift pattern 365 days a year, including weekend and bank holidays.
  • To maintain all electronic records, logs, and associated paperwork relating to the CCTV system processes and procedures. To follow the operational guidelines contained in the Code of Practice, Assignment instructions, Video management system operating Procedure Manual and other guidelines.
  • To actively observe the Control room Video management system, monitor, detect and to respond to any adversary activity or dangerous safety activity that could cause harm to individuals or the business. To react and response to all alarms, as and when they arise, in line with the procedure manual.
  • To be proactive in a response to any such adverse activity and liaise with the BBV Watchkeeper to ensure immediate or remedial action and notification as appropriate to events observed.

Experienced required

  • Must have a good understanding of the basic principles of CCTV and why it is used, in line with the CCTV SIA Handbook.
  • More extensive knowledge will be disseminated to the operatives to broaden their knowledge and personal development.
  • Working knowledge of Surveillance Code Of Practice, General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and The Data Protection Act 2018, criminal law, Human Rights Act 1998.
  • Effective communicator: oral, good written skills for reporting writing, and aural with good I.T. skills, word, excel, SharePoint.
  • Good concentration skills with attention to detail when it comes to formulating incident reports.
  • Able to work under pressure in stressful situations and to remain calm and detached.
  • Good Customer Care Skills and telephone manner.
  • Required to observe developing situations, assess and interpret those situations, assess the risks that may arise or be involved, monitor incident, and communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Operators must be able to communicate effectively with other team members, notifying them of their intentions either to leave their workstation or to carry out other works.
  • Must be a team player, Clear thinking, have the ability to judge situations thereby giving them the correct order of priority.
  • High level of problem solving, regarding the Video Surveillance Systems(VSS) information collation and interpretation.
  • Physical Requirements: Being fit for work must be a priority.
  • The candidate must be able to manage and identify times where concentration levels may lapse, make people aware of their intentions to mitigate such levels.

Balfour Beatty VINCI is a long-established joint venture between two powerhouses for the delivery of critical infrastructure across rail, transport and other iconic projects in the UK and beyond. We started working together over 30 years ago to deliver the Channel Tunnel, as members of the TransManche Link consortium. In the Midlands, it is Balfour Beatty VINCI’s role to design and build the route, ready for tracks and signalling to be installed. Our work with HS2 Balfour Beatty VINCI have been awarded a 90km section of the HS2 project from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and then on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Overall, we will be building the following across all our sites:

• 9.3km of viaducts

• 62 overbridges

• 35 cuttings

• 56 culverts

• 62 embankments

• 2 twin bore tunnels and 2 cut and cover tunnels

• 28 underbridges and 11 underpasses
