Job Title: Operations Manager

Location: Burton

Salary: £50,000 per annum dependent on experience + £5,000 Managers CPC

Hours: Full-time, Permanent

We are a well-established bus operator providing safe, reliable, and customer-focused transport services across Burton. With a strong commitment to service excellence and operational efficiency, we are looking for an experienced Operations Manager to join our leadership team and drive continuous improvement.

The Role

As Operations Manager, you will play a key role in overseeing the day-to-day running of our Burton depot and services. You will ensure our operations are compliant, efficient, and customer-centred, while leading and supporting staff across driving, scheduling, and supervisory functions. Due to the nature of the role the successful candidate will need to be flexible and prepared to work the required hours to meet the needs of the business, which may include anti-social hours.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage depot operations, ensuring punctual, reliable, and safe services. 
  • Monitor and manage driver performance, compliance with regulations, and adherence to company policies. 
  • Manage scheduling, rostering, and resource allocation to optimise service delivery. 
  • Support and develop front-line supervisors and drivers, fostering a positive working culture. 
  • Liaise with engineering, HR, and commercial teams to deliver joined-up operational performance. 
  • Ensure compliance with transport legislation, including DVSA and local authority requirements. 
  • Analyse performance data to drive continuous improvement in efficiency and customer service. 
  • Manage budgets, cost control, and operational KPIs. 
  • Drive engagement with the depot team, including driving staff and customers; 
  • Ensure an effective working relationship with recognised trade union representatives and officials; 
  • To ensure the effective management of accident and injury prevention; 
  • To ensure position working relationships are maintained between the company and local authorities; 
  • Liaise with external bodies to improve performance of lost miles and punctuality; 
  • To ensure all cash handling procedures are followed; 
  • Responsible for the full employee life cycle of all employees;
  • Ensure all staff welfare issues are dealt with effectively.

Preferred Skills

  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of British Domestic Hours Rules (as defined within the) Transport Act 1968 and the Working Time Regulations 1998.
  • A good level of competence in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Email).
  • A basic level of Competence in the use of Omni-das and Ticketer systems.

Qualifications

  • Transport Manager CPC (Desirable / willingness to obtain within 6 months of start date)
