Job Description

Chair of the Board

Salary £10,145 per annum

Worthing Homes, a successful and high-performing housing association, is seeking a dynamic, innovative and passionate professional to serve as our Board Chair from September 2025 (to correspond with the end of tenure of the current incumbent).

With over 4,000 homes in the Sussex coastal area and a keen development programme, we are committed to delivering first-class customer services and investing in our homes and communities.

The Chair will steer the Board in setting the strategic vision and direction of the organisation and ensure the continuation of effective, collaborative leadership to build on our success and achieve our goals and ambitions. Notably, our aspiration for all our customers and colleagues to say they’ve had a brilliant experience with us.

We are looking for someone with a substantial record of success at a senior level, in a complex business, with high levels of regulation. You will need to be able to act strategically and effectively lead a team of expert and experienced board members; be well informed about the social housing sector and have a genuine affinity with the values and aims of Worthing Homes. In addition, experience in delivering exceptional levels of customer satisfaction within demanding efficiency targets would be an advantage. As a ‘place shaper’ organisation, candidates should ideally live within a reasonable commute of Worthing and have broad first-hand local knowledge.

In a 12-month period, the role requires a time commitment of approximately 2-3 days per month, with meetings hosted ‘in person’ at our office in central Worthing (meetings are currently held on Wednesday evenings, with 6 per year). This also includes attendance at quarterly Committee meetings, along with additional Board Strategy events, held twice a year.

By leading the Board and working closely with the Chief Executive, Senior Leadership Team and the colleagues of Worthing Homes this is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the provision of housing and a range of customer services to the communities we serve on the South coast.

If you’re passionate about making a difference and want to shape our future, we’d love to hear from you.
