Reporting directly to our Head of Technical Delivery, we’re looking for a Principal Software Engineer with a passion for technology and innovation, eager to make significant impact through decisive problem solving.

Role and Responsibilities:
  • Design, build and lead the development of our software solutions, ensuring they meet high standards of quality and performance.
  • Ensure the scalability, security, and reliability of our software systems.
  • Act as a thought leader for our development teams, fostering innovation and technical excellence.
  • Assess current team capabilities and identify areas for improvement.
  • Mentor and motivate development teams, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
  • Evaluate and determine optimal development practices for our teams.
  • Support the execution of a comprehensive migration plan to modernise our existing systems.
  • Drive the adoption of AI code writing tools to improve the quality and expedite the delivery of solutions.
  • Implement best practices to seamlessly integrate legacy applications with new components.
  • Guide the adoption of reusable standard components across products and services to improve efficiency and reduce development time.
  • Collaborate directly with current development Team Leads and Principal Software Architect to share knowledge and expertise.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Technical Delivery to ensure smooth integration of new architectures with existing infrastructure and DevOps practices.
  • Support the product development roadmap, working closely with the product management team to ensure timely delivery of features and products.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to align technical strategies with business objectives.
  • Drive technical innovation and stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • Proven experience in software development/engineering, in a similar senior role.
  • Strong experience with full-stack development, including backend technologies and modern front-end practices.
  • Strong proficiency in object-oriented programming languages, ideally specialising in Java and AngularJS.
  • Familiarity with Groovy, Grails, and Micronaut frameworks.
  • Extensive knowledge of development best practices and methodologies.
  • Extensive knowledge of microservices and API management.
  • Proven experience in team mentoring and development.
  • Deep understanding of cloud technologies, particularly AWS services including Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, EC2, RDS, S3, Elastic Beanstalk, SNS, and DynamoDB.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies, preferably Kanban.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and creatively.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to articulate complex technical concepts to various stakeholders.
  • Relevant AWS developer certifications.
  • Experience with Jira and Microsoft Azure DevOps. - Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Aider, Claude dev, Cursor).
  • Understanding of AI and machine learning concepts, including experience with LLMs (e.g., GPT-4, Claude 3.5).
  • Experience in the recruitment or staffing industry would be ideal but is not required.
