What is the Role of a Senior Carer?

At Kelly Park Limited, the Senior Carer plays a key leadership role within the frontline care team, acting as a bridge between Health Care Assistants, Care Coordinators, and management. Senior Carers ensure that care delivery remains safe, person-centred, and responsive, while also supporting with assessments, medication monitoring, and service-user reviews.

Working in the community and office-based settings, Senior Carers provide practical support, mentorship to staff, and quality assurance oversight. They help ensure that each care package reflects the evolving needs of the individual while maintaining a consistent, high standard of service in line with CQC regulations and Kelly Park’s internal policies.

What Support We Provide

Senior Carers provide a wide range of operational and quality-focused support that directly contributes to the safety and effectiveness of the care we deliver. Their duties include:

Supporting emergency visit cover in times of rota disruption, ensuring continuity of care for Service Users during unexpected staffing issues.

Conducting spot checks and quality monitoring on Health Care Assistants, focusing on personal care delivery, medication administration, and professional conduct.

Participating in initial assessments and reviews alongside the Risk Assessment Team, helping to create or update personalised care plans and ensure Service User needs are clearly understood and documented.

Liaising with external professionals, such as GPs, social workers, and families, to provide timely feedback, update care plans, and troubleshoot complex or changing care requirements.

Maintaining accurate records by updating electronic care planning systems, ensuring compliance with visit times, service delivery notes, and review documentation.

Monitoring and promoting safe medication practices, flagging any concerns or deviations from policy to the management team.

Acting as a mentor and role model to Health Care Assistants, encouraging best practice, positive attitudes, and continuous professional development.

Our Approach

At Kelly Park Limited, we hold our Senior Carers to the highest standards — not only in skills, but in values. The 6Cs of Care are embedded into every part of their role:

Care - Leads by example in providing compassionate, high-quality care that meets individual needs. Compassion - Treats all Service Users and staff with kindness, empathy, and understanding, especially during sensitive interactions.

Competence - Demonstrates clinical and practical skills, including medication oversight, assessments, and mentoring, with accuracy and confidence.

Communication - Ensures clear, respectful, and timely communication with families, external professionals, and internal colleagues.

Courage - Speaks up about concerns, addresses poor practice, and supports Service Users and staff during times of change or difficulty.

Commitment - Shows dedication to improving the lives of Service Users and supporting a cohesive, professional care team.

Senior Carers are not only skilled workers — they are ambassadors of quality, trust, and values-led care.
