We have an exciting opportunity for a reliable Driver to join our dynamic team. This permanent, part time position is well suited to an individual that is looking to advance their career and gain hands-on experience in a thriving and supportive workplace.
You will be working on the Portsmouth City Council Housing Maintenance and Corporate Asset Contract, delivering materials to operatives and subcontractors within the Portsmouth Area. You will be based at the primary supplier’s depot working closely with the delivery service team. Your prime responsibilities will be delivering materials and van stock replenishments to operatives and subcontractors at various properties in and around the city of Portsmouth at the time required by the customer (Operative). You will be responsible for ensuring deliveries are correct and all job information and paperwork is updated for each delivery. To succeed in this role, it is essential you completely understand the end to end process of delivering the perfect repair for the customer, your role in the process and the responsibilities of others in that process.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• To ensure you understand your role in the end to end process of delivering the perfect repair for the customer, and the responsibilities of others in that process.
• Loading of materials and van stocks into your vehicle, ensuring you check that the items match what is on the delivery ticket.
• Ensure during loading of materials they are of good quality, free from defect, fit for purpose and not damaged in any way. • Deliver materials and van stocks to the operatives and subcontractors using the most direct routes wherever possible driving in a safe and courteous manner.
• Confirm the successful completion of each delivery as it happens with the materials resource team to ensure scheduling and logistics of service and other deliveries is effective and efficient.
• Load and unload materials safely ensuring the correct manual handling procedures are always followed and request assistance where you feel it is necessary.
• Ensure the Materials Service Vehicle is always kept clean and tidy, undertake period checks and inspections of the vehicle, reporting any accidents/damage or issues to the Materials Service Manager immediately.
• Be a team player supporting the Materials Resource team and other delivery drivers whilst between deliveries/collections to;
o Help load and unload materials
o Buddy up when there are large deliveries or heavy items.
o Keep everyone informed of the best routes for deliveries/collections especially when there are roadworks or road accidents.
o Support the Materials Supervisor in ensuring the picking area is always kept clean and tidy.
o Assist keeping the tools and equipment area tidy, this is to include helping with distributing out and booking back in any tools which have been out on hire.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
• Have a full driving licence.
• GCSE or Equivalent Qualification in Maths and English.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
• Good understanding of the Geographical Portsmouth City area including streets, the best routes, and travel times between various locations (preferred).
• Have a good knowledge of the Materials suppliers within the Portsmouth Area (preferred).
EXPERIENCE
• Experience of working as a Delivery Driver (desirable).
