Consultant Landscape Planner
Bristol

About the role:

We are seeking a Consultant Landscape Architect to join our lively and friendly Landscape Planning team at LUC. You will have the opportunity to work with and learn from industry experts who are at the forefront of landscape planning in the UK.

LUC is a multi-disciplinary environmental consultancy providing landscape design, planning, impact assessment, ecology and geospatial services to a wide range of public and private sector clients.

As a Consultant Landscape Architect, you will learn about the projects undertaken at LUC, our clients and approach to work, while providing input on a variety of aspects of technical work. LUC can provide you with an excellent environment in which to further develop and enhance your skills in a consultancy environment.

Our portfolio is constantly expanding with challenging and high-profile projects including planning for future landscapes and responding to climate change, providing robust landscape evidence for local plans, assessment and management of protected landscapes, and the assessment of the landscape and visual impacts for a range of development types including renewable energy projects.

You will be involved with projects such as:

  • Landscape & Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA), often as part of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)
  • Landscape character assessments for local planning authorities
  • Landscape sensitivity for housing, employment and renewable energy development
  • Local landscape designation reviews
  • Landscape research for Natural England and Natural Resources Wales, Forestry Commission and other public bodies

You will be involved in all stages from tendering through to completion, providing support to senior staff, and often working collaboratively with other LUC and external teams. The work will include carrying out site assessments, report writing and production of graphics, with extensive opportunities to undertake landscape fieldwork across the UK and further afield.

The role includes the opportunity to share and participate actively in the management and ownership of the business through the Employee Ownership Trust, which places full ownership of the company with the employees.

The role is based in LUC's Bristol office. We work in a hybrid model with people being in the office a minimum of two days per week. There will also be travel required to visit sites, client offices and other office locations.

A full-time role is based on 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday). However, LUC has a strong track record in flexible working, and we have been recognised for our flexible working culture, so we are happy to discuss a range of flexible working options for this role including part time hours (minimum 30 hours per week) if desired.
