Technical Artist
London, Cardiff, Bristol, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow or Sheffield

About the role:

LUC is seeking a Technical Artist to join our GIS and Visualisation team. The candidate will join our growing interactive team who are using the capabilities of game engine technology to build immersive consultation and digital planning tools to help clients respond to environmental challenges and achieve positive outcomes for communities and the natural environment.

This role is ideal for someone looking to continue the development of their skills in Unreal Engine, interactive design and real-time 3D tools with a focus on addressing the climate emergency. The role is an exciting opportunity to build on growing connections between game development and public engagement.

You will work alongside our established team of real-time environment artists and technical specialists to help deliver interactive, touchscreen 3D platforms used in community consultations. These allow the public to explore large-scale infrastructure, renewable energy and landscape proposals with clarity, transparency and meaningful engagement.

You will be supported by senior team members and will collaborate with colleagues across the wider consultancy—including landscape architects, planners, ecologists, designers and GIS specialists. Many of our projects are multidisciplinary, offering a diverse, meaningful and varied workload.

Some of our current projects include:

  • Interactive touchscreen platforms for public consultation.
  • Visualisation in support of Impact Assessments for infrastructure, residential and renewable energy schemes.
  • 360 Virtual viewpoint experiences
  • Future climate resilient landscape visualisations
  • Visualisation of new public realm spaces

The role includes the opportunity to share and participate actively in the management and ownership of the business through the Employee Ownership Trust, which places full ownership of the company with the employees.

This role can be based in any of LUC’s offices (London, Cardiff, Bristol, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow or Sheffield). We work in a hybrid model with people being in the office a minimum of two days per week. There will also be travel required to visit sites, client offices and other office locations.

A full-time role is based on 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday). However, LUC has a strong track record in flexible working, and we have been recognised for our flexible working culture, so we are happy to discuss a range of flexible working options for this role including part time hours (minimum 30 hours per week) if desired.
