About the role:
The Consultant Ornithologist will be based in Bristol, Cardiff or Manchester, helping to deliver our exciting and diverse orderbook.
Successful candidates will be part of the established LUC ornithology team, while also having the opportunity to engage in the wider portfolio of work undertaken by our UK wide ecology team.
This opportunity would suit applicants with previous experience of ornithology surveying, particularly in the energy generation and transmission sectors. However, we would also consider less experienced applicants, with bird identification skills, who are suitably motivated by the prospect of a career in ornithology consulting.
The role will include being actively involved in:
- Preparing desk studies and collating ornithological data sets.
- Preparing and planning field surveys, in collaboration with colleagues.
- Implementing surveys across the UK, as part of a survey team.
- Managing, analysing and interpreting ornithological data.
- Contributing to consultancy reports.
- Contributing to wider business development activity.
The role includes the opportunity to share and participate actively in the management and ownership of the business through the Employee Ownership Trust, which places full ownership of the company with the employees.
Salary: £25,000-£29,050 (FTE) depending on experience
A full-time role would be based on 37.5 hours Monday to Friday. However, LUC has a strong track record in flexible working - recognised for our flexible working culture - so we are happy to discuss a range of flexible working options.
The role is based in LUC’s offices in Bristol, Cardiff or Manchester. We work in a hybrid model with people generally being in the office a minimum of two days per week, but this can vary seasonally and for this role, office attendance may be less. There will also be travel required to visit sites, client offices and other office locations.

The successful candidate will complement our existing enthusiastic and dedicated ornithology team. You will share our commitment to high quality science and be motivated to further grow your ornithology field skills and wider expertise in consulting.
