About the role:
This is a rich and varied role offering the chance to be involved in the co-ordination of our occupational health and safety management system, as well as assisting with the smooth running of our office in the west end of Glasgow. The Office Health & Safety Coordinator will work closely with the Office & Support Manager, as well as other members of the admin team, to help provide a safe and great working environment whilst supporting our award-winning environmental, planning, ecology and landscape project teams.
Day to day, you will have a stimulating mix of tasks: overseeing the general day to day running of the Glasgow office; ensuring all maintenance tasks are up to date for our seven offices; supporting project teams to ensure safety whilst on site visits, including providing PPE and other safety equipment; making sure internal and external communications are flowing smoothly, including preparing relevant safety guidance and training materials as well as proactively coming up with initiatives for helping to provide a safe, happy and productive working environment! Over time, you will ideally become a go to person for any health and safety advice within the company.
Examples of responsibilities include:
- Ensuring the Glasgow, and other offices, are safe and welcoming
- General office tasks; such Reception cover and ensuring the smooth day to day running of the Glasgow office
- Assisting to ensure the maintenance schedules for all offices are actioned
- Assisting with health and safety inductions to new starts and delivering refresher training sessions from time to time
- Ensuring regular health and safety communications are given to staff whether in person or via Weekly Newsletter items
- Collaborating with staff at all levels and in multiple locations regarding health, safety and wellbeing matters
- Conducting internal health and safety audits
- Assisting with the preparation and delivery of external health and safety audits
You must have a previous health and safety background, ideally gained within a similar industry. A basic health and safety qualification would be preferable although working experience in this field is more important. This is ideally a full-time office-based position although flexible working arrangements would be considered. Our project teams work partly from the office and partly from home, so you will play a crucial role in helping to ensure that the office runs smoothly, and all staff are kept up to date with relevant day to day matters enabling them to carry out their roles effectively.
A full-time role would be based on 37.5 hours Monday to Friday. However, LUC has a strong track record in flexible working and we have been recognised for our flexible working culture, so we are happy to discuss a range of flexible working options for this role including part time hours (minimum 30 hours per week) if desired.
Salary: Up to £30,000 (Depending on experience.)
About you:
We are looking for a competent individual with a strong interest in health and safety who is proactive and a good organiser who is able to spot hazards and use initiative to put controls in place. You must have strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and be a good team worker who can stay calm under pressure. The right person will be approachable, understanding and helpful with a positive attitude. This role also requires confident relationship building and communication at all levels within the organisation, as well as external contacts.
Experience and qualifications
Essential
- Previous health and safety experience
- Good working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Strong communication skills with a good level of written and spoken English
- Must be able to strategically organise and plan your workload
Desirable
- A health and safety related qualification
- Experience of using MS Teams, Adobe, SharePoint Intranet and document management systems, would be desirable, but full training on these will be provided
- An interest in the environment or experience of working in our sector would be advantageous, but not essential.
