About Servent
Servent Ltd are a ‘born in the cloud’ Microsoft Solutions Partner and an Advanced Azure partner, who help our customers move to a ‘Modern Enterprise' through the adoption of Microsoft Azure. We are currently going through a period of growth and this role will play an important part in the expansion of the business. We are looking for an experienced Azure Cloud Engineer, who will relish the opportunity to be innovative as well as bringing new ideas that prove useful to the progression of our business, and to the benefit of our customers.
Role Overview
The ideal candidate will have experience in consulting and professional services, delivering Azure-first solutions for enterprise customers. This role is primarily hands-on engineering—building, operating and optimising customer environments across migrations/modernisation, cloud-native deployments and managed services. While architecture and design experience is advantageous, you will typically work from established patterns and reference architectures, collaborating with architects and senior engineers where needed. You will help deliver secure, well-governed Azure services using infrastructure as code, automation and DevSecOps practices, and support adoption of Microsoft 365 and modern security capabilities.
Responsibilities
• Operate, maintain and improve Azure environments using the Azure Portal, automation (PowerShell/CLI) and service management tooling; drive continuous service improvement and reliability.
• Own technical customer interactions across managed services, projects and proofs of concept—translating requirements into secure, supportable Azure solutions.
• Implement, configure and operate Azure landing zones and core platform services (networking, identity, management groups, policy, logging, backup/DR) aligned to the Microsoft Cloud Adoption Framework and Well-Architected Framework. Contribute to technical design and continuous improvement where required.
• Automate delivery with IaC and CI/CD (Bicep/ARM/Terraform; Azure DevOps/GitHub) and embed security-by-design (DevSecOps), cost optimisation (FinOps), observability and incident response. Support modern workplace and security outcomes where required, including Microsoft 365 identity and device management, and Microsoft Security tooling. Contribute to AI-enabled solutions by helping customers deploy and operate Azure AI services safely, including data governance and responsible AI considerations.
Requirements
The main responsibility of this role is to help our customers build, operate and optimise secure Azure environments, ranging from migrations and modernisation through to cloud-native deployments and ongoing improvement. To support our core business, we’re looking for the following skills and experience:
• Strong hands-on Azure engineering experience (compute, storage, networking, identity, governance, monitoring) and a track record of delivering production services.
• Relevant Microsoft certifications are desirable (for example AZ-104/AZ-305, AZ-400, SC-200/SC-300/SC-100, MS-102) or equivalent demonstrable experience
• Experience implementing, operating and optimising Azure solutions, including platform services and application hosting patterns (IaaS, PaaS, containers and serverless where appropriate). Exposure to solution design is advantageous.
• Understanding of ITSM practices (ITIL desirable) and experience working within managed services / operational support models (incident, change, problem).
• Experience with Azure migration and modernisation approaches (assessment, landing zone readiness, cutover planning) for Windows, Linux and SQL workloads.
• Strong Azure networking and connectivity experience (VNets, peering, Private Link/endpoints, DNS, VPN/ExpressRoute, Firewall/WAFs, Application Gateway/Load Balancer, Virtual WAN) and secure network design principles.
• Hands-on experience with operational tooling such as Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, Update Manager, Backup, Site Recovery, Azure Migrate, and Microsoft Defender for Cloud.
• Typically 4+ years of hands-on cloud engineering experience (or equivalent), ideally in enterprise and/or consultancy environments.
• Evidence of successful delivery across multiple customer engagements, working independently and as part of a team.
• Experience with cloud assessment, migration, backup and security tooling from Microsoft and third parties is advantageous.
• Strong automation and infrastructure-as-code skills (Bicep/ARM and/or Terraform; PowerShell/Azure CLI) with secure coding practices and version control (Git).
• Demonstrable CI/CD and DevSecOps capability using Azure DevOps and/or GitHub (pipelines, environments, approvals, secrets, artefacts), integrating security and quality controls.
• Governance and security fundamentals: management groups/subscriptions, RBAC, Azure Policy/initiatives, tagging, resource locks, key management (Key Vault/HSM) and secure identity patterns.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID (hybrid identity, Conditional Access, Identity Protection, Privileged Identity Management) and integration with Azure workloads.
• Good working knowledge of Windows Server and common enterprise services (AD DS/DNS, IIS, SQL Server) and how they translate to Azure services (IaaS and PaaS).
• Exposure to Microsoft 365 and Security is highly desirable, for example Intune, Microsoft Defender (Endpoint/Identity/Office 365/Cloud Apps), Microsoft Sentinel, and Microsoft Purview (information protection and governance).
• Proven experience installing, configuring and troubleshooting complex cloud and hybrid environments, with a strong customer focus and clear documentation skills.
• Delivery of solutions across Azure IaaS, PaaS and SaaS, with exposure to cloud-native architecture patterns (containers, serverless, event-driven) and secure-by-default design.
Skills that are beneficial for the role are:
• Azure Landing Zones experience supporting large-scale, complex environments (implementation and operations), for example multi-subscription, policy-driven governance and repeatable deployments. Exposure to design and governance modelling is advantageous.
• Containers and Kubernetes on Azure (AKS), container registry and deployment patterns.
• Virtual Desktop experience (Azure Virtual Desktop / Windows 365).
• Data and integration services (for example Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, Storage, Service Bus, Event Grid) and modern application hosting.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Defender for Cloud (and relevant components such as Microsoft Defender for Containers, Microsoft Defender for Storage, Microsoft Defender for Servers, Microsoft Defender for SQL, etc).
• Interest or experience in AI-enabled solutions on Azure is desirable (for example Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Search, Azure AI Services or Azure Machine Learning), including awareness of secure data patterns (private networking, key management) and responsible AI principles.
• Platform engineering experience (internal developer platforms, self-service, policy-as-code) and/or AI workload enablement (RAG patterns, secure AI networking and data access).
• Experience with GitHub Copilot (or similar AI-assisted development tools) to improve productivity, accelerate delivery and support consistent coding standards.
• Familiarity with GitHub Advanced Security capabilities (code scanning, secret scanning and dependency review) and integrating them into CI/CD pipelines as part of DevSecOps.
These are the qualities that we look for in all of our people:
• Good verbal and written stakeholder communication skills.
• A customer-led mindset where the customer is always put first.
• A self-starter who is very proactive in their approach.
• Constantly keeps abreast of the ever-changing technology advancements.
• Can communicate at all levels and explain technology concepts in a clear manner.
• Can work independently or as part of team.
• Shares our values and will add to our culture.
• Takes pride in their work ensuring output is of a high quality.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
