Role Purpose:

The UK & Export Accountant will help lead and manage the TREND Networks finance team across core functions including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Banking, Inventory, and Payroll. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial processing, reporting, and compliance while driving process improvements and fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability. Acting as a key business partner, the UK & Export Accountant will oversee budgeting, forecasting, cashflow management, and month-end close activities, as well as support external audits and statutory reporting. The position requires strong leadership skills to supervise, coach, and develop team members, ensuring high performance and continuous improvement. The UK & Export Accountant will also deputize for the Global Financial Controller when required and contribute to strategic initiatives that support business growth.

Key Accountabilities – Team Working and Management of People

  1. Lead and manage finance team members across AP, AR, Banking, Inventory, and cover Payroll functions.
  2. Oversee daily outputs, workload management, performance reviews, and holiday cover.
  3. Promote a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  4. Supervise, coach, and mentor team members to develop skills and foster a business partner mentality.
  5. Set and review performance objectives, conduct appraisals, and implement learning and development plans.
  6. Initial scope of work will be centred around the UK entity with potential for scope to change as business / team structure changes over time.
  7. Deputise for the GFC as required.

Key Accountabilities – Financial/Management Accounting

  • Ensure timely and accurate processing and reporting of AP, AR, and multi-currency banking transactions.
  • Monitor and forecast cashflow, providing clear and accurate reports.
  • Own monthly journals, payroll, accruals, prepayments, and financial statements.
  • Prepare and review monthly management accounts and commentary for senior stakeholders.
  • Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations and resolve variances promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with VAT (UK & DE), EC Sales, and Intrastat submissions liaising with external advisors to ensure compliance.
  • Lead annual budgeting and forecasting processes for allocated departments.
  • Support external audit processes and ensure smooth month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close.
  • Maintain financial policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Track and report KPIs to measure performance and drive improvements.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to support business growth.
  • Ad Hoc tasks as required by GFC, CFO and other stakeholders. Other Requirements

  • Any other reasonable duties, as requested by your Manager, to meet the changing needs of the business.

  • To comply with all legal requirements in respect of health and safety of yourself and others.
  • Demonstrate good human relations both within the team and to other departments.

Other Requirements

Person Specification

Essential

  • Degree in a relevant subject (or equivalent)
  • Recognised Accountancy qualification such as CIMA, ACCA, ICAEW
  • A minimum of 5 years in professional accounting roles, either in Industry or practice
  • A track record of managing deadlines and statutory submissions
  • Experience of managing and mentoring others.
  • Ability to influence and manage change 
  • Excellent leadership skills 
  • Ability to motivate and inspire team members and peers 
  • Strong English language skills, written and spoken word 
  • Microsoft Office – Outlook, PowerPoint, Word 
  • Extensive use of Excel and ERP Systems 
  • Highly numerate 
  • Can demonstrate the ability to manage multiple activity streams simultaneously 
  • The ability to understand and respond to different tax and regulatory requirements across the global business 
  • Working with a high degree of accuracy and a track record of ensuring checks and balances are built into processes 
  • A track record of improving reporting & processes.
